‘Mortal Kombat 1’ Revealed And It’s Out In Four Months
While we knew a new Mortal Kombat game was coming, technically Mortal Kombat 12, we finally have the official announcement of what it is.
The name is…Mortal Kombat 1, which indicates its new “blank slate” storyline which is starting over with the main cast and clearing away past plotlines.
It probably had to happen eventually, and the concept has been shown off in a new trailer, which you can see below:
It’s a bit cinematic until uh, the very end when the ultra-hyper violence starts.
I was not quite clear on whether or not the fighting shown was actual gameplay or still just a cutscene, but it ends with a fatality and uh, yeah, it’s all as gory as you might be hoping for.
The most surprising thing is the release date. From today’s announcement to release it’s almost four months to the day, as Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19, 2023.
That is an extremely short marketing cycle, but also close enough where it feels like it probably won’t get delayed. Fingers crossed, at least.
Here’s what MK co-creator Ed Boon says about Mortal Kombat 1 in the wake of this announcement:
Oh I get it, cameo with a K. It sounds like the roster of partner characters is separate from the main cast, Marvel vs. Capcom style.
It seems pretty apparent that the game will likely start with the “basic” characters of the series, and expand from there.
